Significance
This is a novel interesting method for a selective formation of complex carbon 1,3-diene frameworks, based on the directed intermolecular carbometallation of internal alkynes. The protocol is simple and does not require expensive or toxic reagents or catalysts. A broad functional group tolerance can be expected. The authors showed the applicability of their method in the synthesis of complex molecules, bearing multiple chiral centers. Obviously, this elegant method will find applications in the synthesis of complex natural products.
