Significance

Oxindoles and in particular 3-aryl-3-hydroxy-2-oxindoles are sub-units of many biologically relevant compounds including various drug candidates. The enantioselective addition of boronic acids to isatins using [RhCl(C₂H₄)₂]₂ and (R)-MeO-MOP as a catalyst system is reported and represents a very fast and efficient access to this class of compounds.
