Significance

The synthesis of 2-(aminomethyl)indoles (isogramines) from o-alkynylanilines involving a Pd-catalyzed cyclization-external amine-trapping sequence is reported. The conditions are mild, the scope is reasonable, although it appears to exclude anilines, and the yields of products are good to excellent.
