Significance

This paper describes the group’s further utilization of their diphosphane ligands for hydrogenation. The rigid TangPhos proved superior in this reaction and gave extremely high ee values in many cases. 75 atm of H2 was needed for this reaction and only 1% of the catalyst was required. Multiple Rh and Pd precursor salts were tested and Pd(OCOCF3)2 gave the best results.
