Significance
Litseaverticillol A is a sesquiterpenoid isolated from the perennial shrub Litsea verticillata. It shows anti-HIV and cytotoxic activity. Although the natural product is racemic, a concise, enantioselective synthesis of the (1R,5S)-stereoisomer is reported. The key step is a Pd-catalyzed annulation to give cyclopentenone E.
