Significance

A polyvinylenephosphine was prepared by anionic ring-opening polymerization of a strained 1-phenyl-2,3-dimethylphosphirene, using a substoichiometric amount of n-BuLi as initiator. The polymer was synthesized in good yield and with a reasonably high molecular weight. Air-stable polymer samples were also obtained upon sulfurization of the polyvinylenephosphine with elemental sulfur.
