Significance

A convergent synthesis of the marine natural products amphidinolide X and Y, as well as 19-epi-amphidinolide X, is reported. Stereo­selective Fe-catalyzed reaction of scalemic epoxide A with n-PrMgCl generated an allenol which underwent a Ag(I)-catalyzed cyclization to form the tetrahydrofuran fragment C.
