Significance

This paper describes the conjugate addition of dialkylzinc or trialkylaluminum reagents to α-halo enones. While there are reports of other types of nucleophilic addition to α-halo enones such as Grignard, alkyllithium, cuprates, etc., there are no reports of dialkylzinc and trialkylaluminum reagents. The corresponding products provide the possibility for elaboration of the α-halo moiety.
