Significance

The first Pd-catalyzed C-H activation/C-C coupling reaction sequence using a carboxyl group is reported in this article. This method does not only allow the activation and coupling of sp2-C-H but even of sp3-C-H bonds. Protocols for C-H activation and subsequent Suzuki-type cross-coupling and for cross-coupling with aryl iodides are presented.
