Significance

Reboxetine mesylate is a selective norepinephrine uptake inhibitor currently marketed as the racemate for the treatment of depression. (S,S)-Reboxetine succinate is in development for the treatment of neuropathic pain. The asymmetric synthesis depicted is based on the Sharpless asymmetric epoxidation of cinnamyl alcohol (er = 96:4).
