Significance

(+)-Suaveolindole is isolated from Greenwayodendron suaveolens. It displays activity against gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and MRSA. The key step in the synthesis features an Ireland-Claisen reaction installing an exocyclic double bond and the C16 stereocenter in a single step.
