Significance

Utilizing a non-conventional cyanide source to produce cyanohydrins the authors report a highly enantioselective method for aliphatic aldehydes. Continuing their investigation of the reduced salen ligand derivatives (salalen) the reaction was found to be sensitive to a number of factors including temperature and substrate choice.
