Significance

An expedient, regio- and stereo­specific reaction for the Cu-catalyzed cross-coupling of thiols with vinyl iodides has been developed. The reaction proceeds with complete retention of the stereochemical information on the double bond. The mild reaction conditions also permit the conversion of electron-rich styryl iodides.
