Significance

A polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) protected Au(0)-Pd(0) (8:2) nano-composite in porous polyimide (PI) membrane (Au(0)-Pd(0)/PI) was prepared by casting a mixed solution of Au(0)/Pd(0) and Pl on the glass plate, followed by cross-linking with p-xylyenediamine. The oxidation of various alcohols 1 catalyzed by Au(0)-Pd(0)/PI was carried out under O2 to give the corresponding carbonyl compounds 2. The oxidation rate over the Au(0)-Pd(0)/PI decreased in order benzylic > allylic > aliphatic. The Au(0)-Pd(0)/PI was also applied in solvent-free conditions for the oxidation of 1-phenylethanol.
