Chancen und BarrierenReturn to work for persons with schizophreniaOpportunities and barriersZUSAMMENFASSUNG
ABSTRACT
Patients with schizophrenia are affected by positive and negative symptoms, but also by cognitive disorders in terms of their quality of life and functioning. After remission of psychotic acute symptoms, persistent cognitive and functional deficits can impair independent living and return to work, which is an important goal of modern, recovery-orientated therapy. Regular employment within the established labour market is of high psychosocial significance and represents for many patients an important part of their individual recovery. This overview summarizes current insights into the importance of cognitive and psychosocial functioning for the vocational reintegration of patients with schizophrenic disorders. It demonstrates gaps in care and presents strategies for tackling various barriers on the path toward successful work reintegration.
