Significance

Given the increasing demand for peptides, new methods for the preparation of unnatural amino acids with various active functional groups are strongly desired. Here, the authors have developed an electrochemical synthesis of peptides with an aldehyde group.

Comment

The electrochemical reaction proceeded via cleavage of the C–N bond of the piperidine unit and gave the corresponding peptide with an aldehyde side chain. The method could be applied for pentapeptides.
