Significance

An Ir-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of acyclic imines is described. Several of the substrates examined have been reported to give lower enantioselectivities under different hydrogenation conditions (S. Hoffmann, A. M. Seayad, B. List Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2005, 44, 7424). A chiral phosphate counteranion is used for enantioselective induction. Excellent yields and enantioselectivities are seen for a broad range of N-aryl imines.
