Significance

The authors have developed the copper-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition (ACA) of arylaluminum reagents to enones leading to the chiral aryl-substituted quaternary centers with good to excellent yields and in excellent enantioselectivities. The desired arylaluminum reagents can be easily prepared from the corresponding aryl iodides through an I/Li exchange followed by Li/Al transmetalation, and the resulting arylaluminum reagent can be used without any separation of the resulting insoluble LiCl.
