Significance
The indium(III)-PyBox catalyst system is shown to mediate the enantioselective carbonyl-ene reaction of glyoxylates with good yield and ee values. The catalyst loading can be lowered to 5 mol%, and only two equivalents of α-methylstyrene substrate is used. Unfortunately, the rate of the reaction is relatively slow and takes a few days to complete.
