Significance
The combination of multiple operations within a single flask provides chemists with efficient and practical methods for construction of complex compounds without the need for intermediary purification. This report shows the scope and limitation of a previously reported method for one-pot desymmetrizing hydroformylation and subsequent carbonyl ene cyclization. This process provides highly functionalized cyclohexanols whose synthesis would typically require several steps.
