Significance
Thuggacins A, B and C isolated from the myxobacterium Sorangium cellulosum showed strong antibiotic activity against many microorganisms, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This bacterial species is the causative agent of tuberculosis, the disease with the second highest mortality rate after AIDS.
