Significance

The authors applied the Ti-Ga-Salen heterobimetallic system in the desymmetrization of meso-epoxides, either cyclic or acyclic, with aryl thiols as nucleophiles. Good to excellent yields and enantioselectivities were obtained with relatively low catalyst loadings, mild conditions and short reaction times.
