Significance
This reaction is the first example of aryl-alkyl oxidative cross-coupling. Functionalized aryl and alkyl zinc compounds can be used successfully. The reaction proceeds in the presence of an environmentally benign iron catalyst. This method opens a way to new types of cross-couplings, complementary to the classical variant.
