Significance
The self-assembly of low molecular weight building blocks into supramolecular polymers has applications for the fabrication of optoelectronic materials. Self-assembly of compound 2 via triple-hydrogen bonding of the carboxylic acid moieties leads to highly fluorescent, uniform nanowires. The use of a shape-persistent three-dimensional backbone leads to a high solid-state quantum yield of 22%.
