Significance
Caulerpenynol, a metabolite of the green tropical seaweed Caulerpa taxifolia, has antibacterial and cytotoxic properties. This first synthesis is based on the diastereoselective addition of the alkenyllithium E to the aldehyde D. The resultant adducts are separable by column chromatography.
