Significance
A two-step, one-pot synthesis of substituted guanidines 5 was developed utilizing 4-(bromomethyl)phenoxyethyl polystyrene 2. Thus, S-alkylation of thioureas 1 with bromo resin 2 for four hours, followed by treatment with primary amines 4 gave the corresponding guanidines 5 in up to 99% yield (12 examples, eq. 1).
