Significance
Activation of inert C-H bonds is an important task in organic synthesis. Highly selective Pd-catalyzed ortho-hydroxylation of potassium benzoates using O2 as an oxidant gives good to excellent yields of substituted salicylic acid salts under non-acidic conditions, offering also excellent functional group compatibility.
