Significance
The authors report the first use of a chiral calcium-PyBox system in the Mannich reaction of malonates with Boc-protected imines. This work extends the field of using Group 2 alkaline earth metals in catalysis. The use of the environmentally friendly calcium metal ion is also quite important for future organic synthesis.
