Significance
Reported is the synthesis of substituted thiazoles through the silver(I) triflate catalyzed reaction of propargyl alcohols with thioamides. Also reported is a one-pot synthesis of thiazoles through the iron(III) chloride catalyzed reaction of propargyl alcohols with amides followed by sulfurization effected by Lawesson’s reagent and then ring closure. Mechanisms for these reactions were proposed but no evidence was provided.
