Significance
The ecklonialactones are a family of C18 oxylipins isolated from various brown algae. This first synthesis is protecting-group-free and features two ring-closing metathesis steps. This route was also used to access ecklonialactone A (which is saturated between C6 and C7) from common intermediate I.
