Significance

A series of metal cage complexes 1, formed by the [2+3]-type cocondensation of a π-extended boronic acid and dioxime is reported. The materials formed following electrochemical polymerization are shown to retain the redox properties of the coordinated metal. Furthermore, consecutive electropolymerization using two different monomers formed bilayer metal containing conducting polymers (MCPs) having different metals in each layer.
