Significance
A highly enantioselective hydroxy-methylation of unprotected oxindoles was realized through neodymium-N,N′-dioxide complex to provide useful chiral substituted oxindole derivatives in good yields and excellent enantioselectivities. The desired products were obtained via an unexpected tandem C- and N-addition process.
