Ivyanes from Dendralenes

Significance

A series of ‘ivyanes’ with three to eight cyclopropanes was synthesized in high yield from dendralenes in one step, using the trifluoroacetic acid activated zinc carbenoid method. ­Oligomeric ivyanes are shown to have helical structures and the interconversion between the right- and left-handed conformations was shown via X-ray and NMR spectroscopy analyses.
