Significance

The authors report on a ruthenium-catalyzed asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of α,α-disubstituted ketones containing an aromatic ring or alkene. The reactions were generally run on a 0.3 mmol scale and the alcohols are obtained in high enantiomeric excess.
