Significance
The authors report the straightforward synthesis and the full characterization of the trifluoromethylating agent [(Ph3P)3Cu(CF3)], which is the first N-heterocyclic carbene-free well-defined CF3Cu(I) complex which successfully trifluoro-methylates various iodoarenes. Due to its air stability in solid state, this complex is exceptionally easy to handle.
