Significance
Copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) were prepared on activated carbon by mixing CuCl2, lithium metal, and a catalytic amount (10 mol%) of 4,4′-di-tert-butylbiphenyl. The CuNPs-catalyzed (0.5 mol% Cu) Huisgen cycloaddition (click reaction) of alkyl, alkenyl, and benzylic halides/diazonium with sodium azide and terminal alkynes were carried out in water at 70 ˚C to give the corresponding triazoles 1 and 2 in up to 99% yields. Aromatic amines also gave the corresponding triazoles 3 in the presence of t-BuONO.
