The Guest Editors of this issue of Seminars in Neurology are Drs. Mohamad Abdalkader and Thanh N. Nguyen.

Dr. Abdalkader is Assistant Professor at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center. Dr. Abdalkader is exceptionally well trained in interventional radiology from 2014 to 2016 in Belgium and 2 additional years of fellowships in neuroradiology and interventional neuroradiology in the Unites States in 2016 to 2018. This exposure to a wide range of vascular and interventional procedures helped him acquire solid skills in vascular and interventional radiology, neuroradiology, and interventional neuroradiology, allowing him to effectively diagnose, evaluate, treat, follow up, and prevent these diseases. During his career, he has helped hundreds of patients suffering from acute stroke, brain hemorrhages, brain aneurysms, arteriovenous fistulae, spine fractures, head and neck tumors, vascular malformations of the nervous system, pulsatile tinnitus, and posttraumatic vascular injuries of the head, face, neck, and spine. He has a passion for helping underserved patients, to prevent and tackle the impact of one of the leading causes of disability in the United States. He has led and co-authored sentinel original research articles on the diagnosis and treatment of stroke and cerebrovascular disease, with more than 100 publications in renowned journals. He is an invited speaker to many national and international conferences about the diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular diseases. His goals are to continue to address the shortages in clinical and endovascular care to patients with cerebrovascular diseases, by providing exceptional high-level care for all patients. He is clearly a rising leader and researcher in the field.

Dr. Thanh N. Nguyen is the Director of Interventional Neurology/Neuroradiology at Boston Medical Center and Professor of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Radiology at The Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. She is President-Elect of the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology (SVIN), the first woman in its 15-year history. After receiving her medical degree from McGill University Faculty of Medicine in Canada, Dr. Nguyen performed her neurology residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Following her fellowship in vascular neurology and neurocritical care at Massachusetts General Hospital, she completed a fellowship in interventional neuroradiology at Centre Hospitalier de l'Universite de Montreal with the internationally renowned experts Jean Raymond and others. Dr. Nguyen's clinical and research interests include acute endovascular therapies for stroke, brain aneurysm coiling, and flow diversion. She is Principal Investigator of the CLEAR (CT for Late EndovasculAr Reperfusion) study, the primary results published in JAMA Neurology. She co-led a global study to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on stroke, mechanical thrombectomy, and subarachnoid hemorrhage care. Dr. Nguyen has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to national guideline statements, and book chapters. She serves as Associate Editor of Stroke, Editorial Board of Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease, and Journal of Neuroradiology.

We greatly appreciate the efforts of Drs. Abdalkader and Nguyen, as well as all of the contributing authors, for their exceptional work in this issue of Seminars. Interventional Neurology is a rapidly growing field that has truly revolutionized our care for patients with acute vascular brain injuries as well as incidental or symptomatic vascular lesions. This update is a tremendous contribution to the growing body of literature on the subject. We hope you find this review to be timely to present the most up-to-date information to help neurologists and practitioners to feel well informed and prepared in this setting. I wish to personally thank Drs. Abdalkader and Nguyen for their dedication to this issue, helping to ensure that the information is presented in a thoughtful and coherent manner to best serve the neurological and medical communities.
