Abstract
An understanding of the processes by which a normal epithelial cell is transformed
via adenomatosis to a cancer cell requires examination of altered gene structures
in these cells. Several cytogenetic techniques provide insights into affected genes.
Cytogenetic techniques differ in their capability and can be used alone or in combination.
This article reviews for clinicians the possibilities afforded by cytogenetic techniques.
