Significance

Hangman Salophen-Mn (Mn-HSX) complexes were designed and prepared to elucidate structure-reactivity relationships of proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) catalysis. A variety of Mn-HSX complexes has been prepared from dihaloxanthene via a selective mono-arylation (Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling) and a subsequent second cross-coupling.

Comment

Drastic electronic effects were observed in Mn-HSX-catalyzed H2O2 dismutation indicating that the PCET process is affected by the electronic perturbation of the redox site.
