Significance

The alkaloid Pseudodistomin D was isolated from the ascidian Pseudodistomina megalarva along with pseudodistomins B, C, E and F. The biological activities of these compounds include calmodulin antagonist activity and cytotoxicity against several cancer cell lines. This first total synthesis confirms the absolute stereo­chemistry of the natural product.
