Significance
The use of heterocyclic N-functionality for anchoring a Pd-catalyst to effect C-H activation at remote but geometrically distinct sites is reported. Thus coupling of alkyl- or aryl-substituted pyridines, methyl-substituted quinolines and condensed systems, as well as pyrazoles with aryl iodines under Pd catalysis in the presence of a Ag(I) source affords arylated products in reasonable yields with modest scope in functionality in the aryl iodine partner. Noteworthy iodo over bromo, i.e. FG = Br, coupling selectivity is observed.
