Significance
The method gives a fast and simple access to a variety of α-hydroxyalkylated aza-compounds, many of which are intermediates for synthetically and biologically important substances. This is an interesting example of radical C-H bond activation adjacent to a heteroatom, a very promising conception. The products of the reaction often look ‘drug-like’, so that this method may find a good application in medicinal chemistry.
