Significance

The first isolation of a gold(I) fluoride complex is reported. Analysis by X-ray diffraction demonstrated the near linear coordination geometry of the Au-F bond which, in a solid state, has a monomeric structure in which the fluorine atom bears a partial negative charge and the gold(I) atom has a partial positive charge. The lengthening of the Au-F bond was attributed to the hydrogen bonding with CH2Cl2, the solvent used for recrystallization.
