Significance
Brevetoxin B is a potent neurotoxin isolated from Gymnodinium breve. Two previous syntheses of Brevetoxin B have been described by Nicolaou et al. (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1995, 117, 10252-10263 and references therein) and by Matsuo et al. (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2004, 126, 14374-14376). In the synthesis by Kadota and co-workers, the longest linear sequence was 63 steps (0.28% overall) and the total number of steps was 108.
