Significance
A double-layer organic light-emitting diode (OLED) comprised of a 40-nm-thick film of 1, a carbazole-substituted phenyl enyne, exhibited white-light electroluminescence under a minimum driving voltage of 9 V; the emitted light was very close to ‘pure’ white light - as defined by the Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage (CIE) - with CIE coordinates of (0.30, 0.32), compared to (0.33, 0.33) for ‘pure’ white light.
