Significance

The authors reported here a simple and versatile microwave-assisted method for the transformation of aryl and hetaryl bromides and iodides into the corresponding phenyl chalcogenides. This method uses stable and easy to handle diaryldichalcogenides as starting materials, avoiding problems connected with the handling of phenylthiols or -selenols. This is one of the first methods reported for the preparation of unsymmetrical diaryl tellurides. Several aza-heterocycles were successfully involved into the reaction.
