In an attempt to screen simple radial head fractures for possible ruptures of the interosseous membrane, 27 radial head fractures were classified according to the Mason classification using plain radiographs. 21 patients had a Mason type I fracture and 6 had a Mason type II fracture. All patients had regular X-rays of the wrist and were sent to elbow and proximal forearm MRI. Partial disruptions of the proximal part of the interosseous membrane were found in four cases. All interosseous membrane lesions occurred in Mason type I fractures. Interosseous membrane lesions are more frequent than generally assumed.
