Significance
RK-397 possesses antifungal, antitumor and antibacterial activity. Stereoselective aldol reactions, hydroxyl-directed reductions and allylborations were used to create most of the stereocenters in the polyol portion of the target. Markworthy features include the cross-metathesis of heptatrienal and fragment A to initiate construction of the polyene fragment and the 1,5-asymmetric induction used to fashion fragment D.
