Significance
Dehalogenation is an important process in organic chemistry, and a large number of dehalogenation methods have already been developed. The authors report herein a new mild procedure for the removal of a halogen atom (I, Br) from (hetero)arenes and α-haloketones. The conditions are compatible with a vast majority of functional groups, and the protocol is quite simple. The product yields are usually nearly quantitative. Chlorine can also be removed from activated substrates using this method.
