Significance
This article underlines the usefulness of Cu(I)- and Rh(I)-catalyzed methylenation reactions of aldehydes for one-pot procedures. The methylenation reaction is combined with different coupling reactions in several sequences, such as methylenation-Heck cross-coupling, and methylenation-hydroboration-Suzuki cross-coupling. The Cu(I) complex used as catalyst for the methylenation reaction was found to also exert a beneficial cocatalytic effect on the subsequent cross-coupling reactions.
